William James "Jim" Hartman Jr.

July 10, 1966 — September 29, 2018

William James "Jim" Hartman Jr.

William James Hartman Jr., 52 of Harbor Springs, passed away at home on Saturday, September 29, 2018 with his loving wife and sons by his side.

At 17yrs of age, Jim passed all the requirements and tests to be a paramedic. He became one of the youngest paramedics, with his license arriving on his18th birthday.

He has worked as a paramedic for 34yrs in this community, St Ignace and Mackinaw City.  He saved so very many people and helped/cared for even more.  He was dedicated, kind, and no one ever questioned his knowledge and skills.

By working this type of job, he sacrificed family gatherings, holidays, his sons' events and birthdays.  To his family, he was a true hero. He did make time to work the chains at James' football games, cook the hotdogs and make the popcorn in the concession booth, or assist Jordan with moving the sets at the PAC.  He volunteered with the school night skiing as well as involvement with the Boy Scouts and the Band.  He was very proud of his guys.

He was born July 10, 1966 to William Sr and Celia Rose Hartman. Brother to Selena Hartman and Chris (Jane) Hartman; father to Danny (Jackie) Hartman and Amanda (Travis) McKervey; grandson to John and Lydia Hartman, and George and Delia Rose.  To the many family and friends that loved Jim, please know he loved you all.

Jim met Janice (Horton) while working together in emergency, fell in love, and married. Their two sons, SSgt James (Savannah) M. Hartman and Jordan M. Hartman, soon followed. Jim and Janice have been married for 28 years.

His Dad peaked his interest in becoming a philatelist, a stamp collector.  They spent many many hours over the years enjoying the camaraderie and the discovery.  He was an amazing mechanic, passing that on to his boys; he was never afraid of tackling anything, as long as he had a book with instructions.  For many years, Jim, Tim, and the boys, worked installing and removing docks. It was not a faint of heart job; they were always cold and wet. He was so dedicated that he insisted on giving his input this past spring install, even while cancer was hitting hard.

Jim was truly a good man that is being missed by many.
