William Starke Rosecrans, 80 of Frederic, died at home on Tuesday, September 23, 2014. Born in Jackson, MI on October 13, 1933 he was the son of Alfred and Ollie (Moring) Rosecrans. After graduating from Jackson High School, Bill served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He returned home and attended Michigan State University where he graduated with a degree in police administration. Bill worked for a number of years for the State of Michigan Department of Corrections. Late he became a contractor and had a successful career in the construction business. Bill was an avid pilot, hunter, gunsmith and gun collector. He enjoyed the many hunting trips he had taken with friends. He also enjoyed family genealogy and civil war history. Bill was named after his great-great uncle, a civil war general. He is survived by sons Aaron (Jessica) Rosecrans of Kalamazoo and Michael Rosecrans of Brooklyn; a sister, Alva Marie Middlebrook of California and a brother, Edward (Cathy) Rosecrans of Clark Lake; close friends, Bill and Cindy Smith of Frederic and many other friends. A family memorial service is being planned. Arrangements are by Gaylord Community Funeral Home & Cremation Service
