William L "Roy" Dunbar

William L. “Roy” Dunbar, 87 of South Branch and formerly of Tower, died on Saturday, October 12, 2013 at home. Born on August 16, 1926 in Tower, Roy was the son of William and Ruth (Kettle) Dunbar. Roy served in the U.S.Navy during World War II. A farmer for most of his life, he had also worked in a number of other jobs. Roy was an avid hunter and fisherman. He had also been a little league baseball coach in Wolverine. He was preceded in death by his wife, France Muriel (McClain) Dunbar. Surviving are a daughter, Koreena K. (Paul Grabstanowicz) Dunbar of South Branch; sons, Melvin (Lisa) Dunbar of Lancaster, SC and Dean (Tammy) Dunbar of Kinross; 15 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; brothers, Lloyd (Diane) Dunbar of Wolverine and Larry Dunbar of Wolverine; sisters, Elaine Floeter and Lois McCauley of Wolverine and Esther (John) Harger of Tulsa, OK. Also surviving are his sister-in-law, Leah Davis of Wolverine and brother-in-law Thomas McClain of Pontiac, both of whom he helped raise. Roy was preceded in death by brothers Clayton and Raymond Dunbar and a sister, Evelyn Brink. Visitation at Gaylord Community Funeral Home will be held from 4:00-6:00 PM Tuesday, October 15, 2013 followed by funeral services at 6:00 PM. Interment will be on Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Oaklawn Chapel Gardens, Sault Ste. Marie, MI. Arrangements are by Gaylord Community Funeral Home, 850 North Center Avenue.
