Walter J. Wiscavage, 89, of Gaylord, died Thursday, November 22, 2012 at Otsego Memorial Hospital. Born on October 23, 1923 in McIntyre, PA, Walter was the son of Walter J. and Nellie (Press) Wiscavage. He grew up in Detroit where he was an Eagle Scout and later an assistant scoutmaster. In 1941, Walter graduated from Cass Tech High School. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during 1943-44. He then attended the University of Michigan. He re-enlisted in the U.S. Air Force as a Lieutenant where he achieved the rank of Captain, serving as a communications officer on B-17 and B-24 aircrafts. He worked for RCA as a field engineer assigned to U.S. Air Force bases monitoring the radar towers. He also worked for Dow Corning, Commonwealth and spent most of his career with Weltronics in Detroit and Clare. In 1956, while working in England, he met his future wife Frances Elliott and they were married in Massachusetts, April of 1957. After making several moves together during his career, they retired to Gaylord. He was an avid golfer, fisherman and jack of all trades. He enjoyed wood working, drawing and spending time with his family. Walter was a member of St. Mary Cathedral parish. He is survived by Frances, his wife of 55 years; daughters Lisa Wiscavage of Seattle, WA, Kimberly (Ken) Crawford and grandchildren Evan and Kayley Crawford all of Gaylord. Walter was preceded in death by his four sisters; Anna, Verna, Nell, Gertrude and a daughter, Jane Ann Wiscavage. A private family memorial service was held Saturday.
