Virginia D. Hobson, 92 of Indian River, passed away at Hiland Cottage in Petoskey on Wednesday, October 4, 2017.
Born in Detroit, Virginia was the daughter of Henry and Alice (Smith) Jeroue. She was a 1943 graduate of Marlette High School in Marlette, MI and years later she graduated from North Central Michigan College in Petoskey with an Associate Degree.
On January 20, 1945 Virginia married William J. Hobson in Marlette.
They were married 64 years when he preceded her in death in 2009.
She worked for many years as a secretary in the parole and probation department at the Emmet County building in Petoskey, retiring in 1992.
Virginia was a member of Indian River United Methodist Church. She was an avid gardener who also enjoyed antiquing, sewing, cooking, watching Detroit Tigers baseball games and swimming. Her grandchildren fondly remember camping and learning to swim with grandma at Jelly Stone Campground in Indian River. In retirement she and Bill enjoyed wintering in Florida.
In addition to her husband Bill, Virginia was preceded in death by a son, William J. Hobson Jr. in 1956. Surviving are her children, Joan (Ron) Woods of Wolverine and David B. Hobson of Wolverine; grandchildren, Kara (Jay) Passino, Todd (Carol) Woods and Ryan (Laura) Woods; great grandchildren, Hunter, Matthew, Derek, Nathan, Addison and Abby; and her brother, Charles (Mary) Jeroue of Kansas.
A memorial service will be held at 11:30 AM Saturday, October 21, 2017 at the Indian River United Methodist Church where visitation will begin at 10:30 AM. Those who wish are asked to consider memorial contributions to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Vital Care Hospice or the Indian River United Methodist Church.
