Virgil R. Koronka

Virgil R. Koronka, 71 of Gaylord, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, on Thursday, November 20, 2014 at McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey.

Born on October 26, 1943 in Grayling, Virgil was the son of Victor and Ann (Strzynski) Koronka. He was a 1962 graduate of Gaylord High School and a lifelong area resident.

On October 16, 1965, he married Lee N. Hagadorn. For those fortunate enough to have met him, Virgil became an instant life-long friend. He loved his family and working on his farm. For years he had a butcher shop and was well known in the community for his exceptional deer processing. He was also an avid hunter and a member of the National Rifle Association.

As his sons had families of their own, he enjoyed having a close relationship with his grandchildren. Having his family all together in Koronkaville was very important to Virgil. He had also worked in plumbing and heating, logging and as a lease operator in the oil field industry.

Virgil is survived by Lee, his wife of 49 years; his sons, Mark (Annaliese), Brian (Jacki), and Keith (Kim) all of Gaylord; grandchildren, Rachel (Fiancé Kody), Matthew, Ryan, Seth, Gavin, Garrett and Grant; a great-grandson, Tucker; sisters, Mary Ann Mullins of Gaylord and Bernie (Bill) Peterson of Traverse City and a brother, David (Karen) Koronka of Gaylord.

Virgil’s family will remember him with a celebration of his life on Sunday, November 30th at the Eagle’s Hall beginning at noon. Those who wish are asked to consider memorial contributions to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or to the Wounded Warrior Project.

Arrangements are by Gaylord Community Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 850 North Center Avenue.
