Vernah Joy Walcott, 97 of Gaylord, passed away at The Brook in Gaylord on Sunday, September 6, 2020 with family by her side.
Born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on July 8, 1923, she was the daughter of Otis and Florence (Vandermeer) Cook. Vernah was a 1941 graduate of Grand Rapids Union High School.
On February 25, 1943 she married Roland E. Walcott. They lived in
Grand Rapids until 1966 when they moved to Mancelona where they owned a restaurant and bar, the Jolly Rollie Inn. In 1990 the couple moved to Gaylord. In Gaylord, Vernah attended the First United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Hope Circle.
In her spare time Vernah enjoyed flower gardening, reading, playing scrabble and crossword puzzles.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roland E. Walcott in 2000 and a son, Roland P. Walcott in 2014. Surviving are her children, Valerie Meyer of Corona, CA and Daniel Walcott of Gaylord; eight grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
In keeping with her wishes, her family will remember her privately with a service at the First United Methodist Church Memorial Garden. Those who wish are asked to consider memorial contributions to Hospice of Michigan.
