Vera Jean Hickerson, 84 of Gaylord, passed away at Otsego Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, April 11, 2018 with her family near.

Born in Gladwin, Michigan on September 20, 1933, she was the daughter of Alexander and Vera (Tenwalde) Cameron.  She grew up in Gladwin and was a 1953 graduate of Gladwin High School.

On April 20, 1954 Jean married Joseph W. Hickerson at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Gladwin.  In 1960, along with their young family, they moved to Gaylord.

Jean was a member of St. Mary Cathedral in Gaylord and a longtime active member of the Daughters of Isabella.

An avid traveler, she enjoyed visiting many different countries and islands.  Jean also liked to be at home where she enjoyed family activities and tending to the flowers and birds around her home.

Jean is survived by her son, Joseph (Michele) Hickerson of Gaylord; daughters, Julie (Greg) Roman of Greenville, North Carolina and Jacklyn Hickerson of Burlington, Vermont; grandchildren, Natalie (Bruce) Udell, Cimberly (Chris) Wier, Emily (Chris) Carol, Leslie (Matt) Kachel, Elizabeth (Elliott) Wian, Eddie Bishop, Latrese (Willie) Abner, Edward Latrell Singleton and Alisha (Drew) Buttz; 14 great grandchildren; a brother, Larry (Louise) Cameron of Standish; sisters, Patricia Haring of Clare and Susan Lang of Beaverton; four sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Joe in 1974; a daughter, Jill; and ten sisters and brothers.

The family will visit with friends from 5:00-8:00 PM Monday, April 16, 2018 at Gaylord Community Funeral Home & Cremation Service where a Rosary will be recited at 7:00 PM.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at St. Mary Cathedral where visitation will begin at 10:00 AM.  Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Gladwin.
