Vera Mae Fahlstrom, age 90, of Gaylord, died peacefully on Saturday, November 8, 2014 at Tendercare Gaylord with her family by her side. Born on May 28, 1924 in Sherwood, Ohio, she was the daughter of Floyd and Emma (Parker) Crawford. On November 14, 1944 Vera married Thomas R. Fahlstrom in Napoleon, Ohio.
Early in their marriage they lived in New Orleans where Vera worked as an aircraft riveter during World War II. A longtime Gaylord resident, she worked as a waitress at the Chatterbox and also in the kitchen at Gaylord High School. She was an active member of Gaylord First United Methodist Church and a 25-year volunteer at RSVP, working bingo and nature programs. She also enjoyed dancing and gardening.
Vera is survived by Tom, her husband of 70 years; a daughter, Karen (Tom) Harriger of Gaylord; sons, Thomas E. Fahlstrom of Brighton, Daryl (Judy) Fahlstrom of Jackson and Karl (Sandy) Fahlstrom of Sun Prairie, WI; 10 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Glen Crawford and sisters, Iva Keegan and Betty Johnston.
Visitation for Vera will be held from 4:00-8:00 PM on Wednesday, November 12 at Gaylord Community Funeral Home, 850 North Center Avenue. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, November 13 at Gaylord First United Methodist Church, 215 South Center Avenue with Rev. Dan Bowman officiating. Visitation will begin at the church at 10:00 AM. Interment at Fairview Cemetery will follow the service.
