Valerie Ann Mellon

Valerie Ann Mellon, 45 of Gaylord, passed away at home on Wednesday, March 22, 2017 after a brief illness.

Born in Grayling, Michigan on August 25, 1971, Valerie was the daughter of Dr. Dennis and Judith (Ensinger) Mellon.

A lifelong Gaylord resident, Valerie was a 1989 graduate of St. Mary High School.  A longtime local hairdresser and massage therapist, she was the owner of Val’s Hair & Nails, and Infinity Massage Center.  Val had also worked at The Spa at Bay Harbor.  She had studied at the Institute of Natural Therapies and Kirtland Community College.  Valerie supported the use of natural medicines and products. She enjoyed crocheting and was a Prince music fan.  The focus of her life was her two daughters and their accomplishments; she loved them with her whole heart.

Valerie is survived by her daughters, Amara Rae and Kali Rayn Brewer both of Gaylord; her mother, Judith Mellon of Gaylord; a sister, Pamela (Dennis) Smitson of Florida; brothers, Greg (Mary) Mellon of Ohio and Curt (Mike) Mellon of Florida; her nieces, nephews and many special friends.  She was preceded in death by her father, Dr. Dennis Mellon; a sister, Denise Mellon and brothers, Mark and Jeff Mellon.

In keeping with Valerie’s wishes, a celebration of her life will take place around the summer solstice in June and details will follow later.
