Valerie Sue Rivard

We are saddened to announce the death of Valerie Sue Osterlund Rivard of Mancelona, Michigan and Marco Island, Florida.

She was born on February 11, 1942, in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of William and Mary (Konsky) Osterlund. She grew up in Harper Woods, Michigan. Valerie was an only child, and was very close with her cousins, aunts, and uncles when growing up.

Valerie graduated from Regina High School in 1960. She worked for Standard Federal Bank, the Paperback Exchange bookstore, the Rochester Public Schools, and at CMS Utilities (Miss Dig) the Michigan Utility Notification Center. 

She married Thomas Rivard on October 24, 1964, and they celebrated 59 years of marriage in October. 

She enjoyed gardening, baking, beadwork/jewelry-making, birdwatching, dogs, and spending time with her family and friends. She was a two-time survivor of breast cancer. 

She is survived by her beloved family: husband Thomas Rivard, her sons John and Matthew, daughter-in-law Mary, grandsons James and Logan, as well as cherished brothers- and sisters-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.
