Thomas J. "Tommy" May

Thomas J. “Tommy” May, 47, of Lewiston passed away Friday, October 29 2021, at Spectrum Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids. Born in the family home – aka the “Big House” – in Lewiston on February 4, 1974, he was the son of Thomas Charles and Ellen (DeVold) May.

In 1992, Tommy graduated from Johannesburg-Lewiston Area Schools. He attended Ferris State University, where he obtained his Associate Degree in Heavy Equipment Mechanics. At age 5, he began his career in the family business, starting at the position of “Garbage Disposal Technician”. He stayed with the family business and eventually became part-owner of what is now known as Lewiston Sand & Gravel. Tommy enjoyed hunting, cutting wood, and working on the family property in the rare times that he wasn’t at work.

He is survived by his son Nick (Lauren) May, his mother Ellen May, his brothers and sisters Amy (Chris) Pohutsky, Michael (Sherry) May, Charlie (Marcie) May, Sarah (Patrick) Crupi, Ted (Hope) May, Mary May, Emily (Rob) Morris, Mark May and Patricia (Dan) Prewett, his grandmother, Cecilia May, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Charles May, in 2012, his maternal grandparents, Jerry and Eleanor Devold, and his paternal grandfather, Charles May.

Visitation will take place from 4p.m. to 7p.m. Friday, November 5, 2021 at St. Francis of Assisi in Lewiston. A Celebration of Life Mass, also at St. Francis of Assisi, will take place 12p.m. Saturday, November 6, 2021. Visitation will begin at 11a.m., until the time of services. Following services, there will be an honorary processional to the Catholic cemetery. Graveside services will happen at a later date. Luncheon to follow at St. Francis of Assisi Hall.

The family respectfully requests anyone attending services to please wear a mask. In lieu of flowers, consider contributions to the family for a future memorial marker in Lewiston.
