Thomas Gary Walker

Thomas Gary Walker, 70, of Gaylord, passed away unexpectedly at Otsego Memorial Hospital on Sunday, November 27, 2016.

Born in Alameda, CA on September 13, 1946, Tom was the son of Robert and Charlotte Walker.   After graduating from high school in California, Tom served in the U.S. Air Force for two years and also spent two years as a merchant marine.

Tom moved to Michigan in 1975 where he met Sandra Jones.  They were married on June 20, 1982 and have spent their life together in Gaylord.

As an auto mechanic, Tom spent many years operating Tri-County Transmission in Gaylord.  For more than 30 years Tom has been a dedicated member of the Otsego County Fire Department.  He greatly enjoyed cooking and nurturing the plants in his gardens. Golfing and shopping for bargains were long-time hobbies.

Tom was a long time member of Song of the Morning Yoga Retreat where he willingly served in many capacities.  Tom’s gentle, kind, and caring nature was appreciated by many.  His love extended to woodland creatures and his special pets.  Tom will long be remembered for his bright, serene, and giving nature, and his readiness to help all who crossed his path.

Tom is survived by his wife, Sandra Jones of Gaylord; brothers, Robert Walker (Ernie Phinney) of Rancho Mirage, CA and Michael Walker of South Lake Tahoe, CA; a nephew, Jon Walker; a niece, Kira Walker; and his many friends from all walks of life.

A memorial gathering will be held at Gaylord Community Funeral Home & Cremation Service from 5:00-7:00 PM Thursday, December 8, 2016.  A memorial service will follow at 11:00 AM Saturday, December 10, 2016 at Song of the Morning Yoga Retreat.  Those who wish are asked to consider memorial contributions to Song of the Morning or to the charity of your choice.
