Shirley Antoinette Sewell, 79 of Gaylord, died Saturday, August 17, 2019 at home.
Born in Saginaw on June 7, 1940, she was the daughter of Joseph and Antoinette (Koronka) Duhoski. The family later moved to Gaylord where Shirley graduated from St. Mary High School in 1958.
In 1958 Shirley married Floyd Sewell in Flint, where they lived until 1966 when they purchased and moved to their 80 acre farm in Ellsworth. Shirley was a hardworking mom and farm wife. With sometimes limited means she saw to it her children had a good life as did the many other kids who spent time on their farm in their youth. Later, after moving to Gaylord, she worked for 19 years at Walmart.
After working so hard much of her life, later years brought time to enjoy gardening, reading and travel. Shirley had the opportunity to travel with her sister and brother in law, including trips to the Amazon, Bora Bora, Africa and France.
Surviving are her children, Eugene (Joyce) Sewell of Ellsworth and Denise Pattison of Gaylord; step children, Betty Gail Fluery of Cheboygan, Dorleska “Penny” Glazier of Gaylord and Elaine Laforest of Gaylord; 16 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren; sisters, Dorothy Sandoval of Charlevoix and Barbara Post of Ohio; brothers, Jim (Judy) Duhoski of Gaylord, John (Bernie) Duhoski of Rochester Hills, Jerome (Estella) Duhoski of Mexico and Joseph (Carole) Duhoski of Gaylord; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a daughter, Karen Carrigan; a son, Joseph Sewell; and a step daughter, Cathy Briggs.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, August 21, 2019 at St. Mary Cathedral where the family will visit with friends beginning at 10:00 AM.
