Russell “Pete” Shorkey, 95 of Gaylord and formerly of Livonia, passed away Thursday, December 18, 2018 at Aspen Rdige Retirement Village. Born on December 31, 1922 in Swissville, PA., Pete was the son of Cyprian “Russ” and Margaret (Kidder) Shorkey.
Pete proudly served in the United States Army during WWII. For many years he worked in communication sales. He was the commodore of DBBC in Monroe, MI. In his spare time he loved boating, making machines and enjoyed tinkering with all sorts of things. He had a niche to be able to fix just about anything.
He is survived by three daughters, Joanne Koons (John Everett) of Rock Hill, SC, Kathryn Ott of Merritt, MI, and Patricia (Paul) Schroeder of Onaway, MI; four grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosemary in 2014 and his brother, James Shorkey.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place 3:30 PM Friday, December 21, 2018 at St. Mary Cathedral in Gaylord.
