Ronald Benz

Ronald Benz, 80, of Elmira, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2025, with his two daughters by his side. Born on January 23, 1945, in Cleveland, Ohio, he was the son of Emil and Jennie (Milinski) Benz.

On January 28, 1966, he married the love of his life, Mary Jane (Brooks). He was a dedicated professional who spent his career working for Shell Oil, where he was known for his expertise in the field with explosives. Ronald had a deep love for the outdoors. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, spending countless hours in the wilderness that he cherished so dearly. Camping trips brought him joy, as did tending to his garden. Ronald was particularly fond of raising chickens and found great enjoyment in caring for them. His dogs were more than just pets; they were his companions and an integral part of his life, providing him with unwavering loyalty and companionship.

He is survived by his two daughters, Brenda Benz and Becky Weatherwax both of Elmira; grandchildren, Morgan Walker of Walloon Lake, Amy Plourde of Gaylord and John Weatherwax of Elmira.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jane Benz; his parents, Emil and Jennie Benz; two brothers, Bruce Benz and Donald Benz.

The family has chosen to remember him privately.
