Roger Eugene Gerwig, 76 of Gaylord, passed away Friday, December 18, 2020 peacefully at home.

Born on February 16, 1944, he was the son of Orla and Julia (Funkhouser) Gerwig of Ashland, Ohio.

On September 27, 1969, Roger married Linda Schambre at the United Methodist Church in Mansfield, Ohio. He was an active member at the Gaylord First United Methodist Church for many years. For most of his life, Roger served our country as a soldier in the United States Army. A distinguished veteran, Roger first served as an intelligence analyst for the Army’s Security Agency in Korea. Several years later, he volunteered for service in Vietnam. After his 30 years of service, he retired at the rank of 1st Sergeant. He enjoyed playing tennis, bike riding, exercising, spending time with his close friends and volunteering at the food pantry.

Roger is survived by his three children, John Gerwig, Jeff (Jill) Gerwig and Jennifer Gerwig; his loving grandson Samuel Gerwig; his brothers, Robert Gerwig of Ashland, OH and Phil (Katie) Gerwig of Perrysville, OH.

A graveside memorial gathering will take place at a later date where his cremated remains will be interred with his wife in the Gaylord First United Methodist Church Memorial Garden.
