Robert W. “Red” Marden, 86 of Gaylord, passed away Thursday, May 5, 2016 at home. Born in Detroit on April 5, 1930, Bob was the son of Stanley and Ruth (Schweitzer) Marden.
Bob served proudly as a U.S. Army Paratrooper in Korea. He worked for the City of Detroit as an elevator mechanic for many years, retiring in 1992.
On August 31, 1973 Bob married Judy (Strong) Steadman in Grosse Pointe. They lived for many years in Grosse Pointe Park and vacationed at their home near Boyne Falls. In 1999 they moved to Gaylord, to their home in Michaywe. Bob was an avid golfer and enjoyed living along the Michaywe Pines 5th fairway. He was a member of the Michaywe Men’s Golf League.
Bob is survived by Judy, his wife of 42 years; his children, Molly Marden of Harper Woods, MI and James (Wendy) Steadman of Grosse Pointe, MI and sisters-in-law, Sue Marden of Mulberry, FL and Barbara Kay of Gaylord. He was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley Marden and Ruth Chernowas; his brother, Roy Marden and his brother-in-law, Bill Kay.
A memorial gathering will be held from 5:00-7:00 P.M. Saturday, May 21, 2016 at the Michaywe Pines Pro Shop. Those who wish are asked to consider memorial contributions to Hospice of Michigan-Gaylord or to the charity of your choice.
