Robert Walter Fair Sr., 81 of Gaylord, passed away on Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at Otsego Memorial Hospital.
Born in New Castle, PA on March 8, 1936, Bob was the son of James and Jennie (Scott) Fair. In 1954 Bob joined the U.S. Navy where he served honorably. After he was discharged in 1957, he returned to New Castle where he worked in the local foundry for 28 years.
While working for Fisher Big Wheel stores as maintenance supervisor, he met Dorothy Counterman in Fremont, Michigan in 1980. They later moved to California and then Arizona and married in Phoenix on July 6, 1986. Bob had also worked as a truck driver for Coca-Cola and last worked at Garner Appliance in Phoenix. In 1990 they moved to Gaylord.
Bob was an avid hunter and fisherman and he also enjoyed working on his Oliver 60 tractor. He enjoyed spending time with his family, and especially his grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothy; his children, Walter J. Fair of Gaylord, James G. Fair of Lovells, Robert W. Fair Jr. of Bradford, PA, Ralph (Maria) Fair of and Eula (Russ) McCoy both of New Castle, PA; several grandchildren including Ethan and Eryn Fair who enjoyed spending time with their grandpa; several great grandchildren; sisters, June Fusco of Edinburg, PA and Luella Pascarella of New Castle, PA; a brother, Nathan Fair of Canton, OH and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by daughters, Nancy Lee and Virginia Marie; sisters, Donna Ragozzino, Shirley Ann Fair, Mable Pitzer, Marion Koscevic, Dorothy May Jaworski and Joyce Irene Fair; and brothers, Charles, James, Ralph and Albert Fair.
A memorial service and military honors will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at Gaylord Community Funeral Home & Cremation Service where the family will gather with friends at 12:00 noon. Those who wish are asked to consider memorial contributions to Compassus Hospice.
