Robert F. Kehrl, 81 of Vienna Township, passed away on Thursday, September 15, 2016 at Otsego Memorial Hospital in Gaylord.
Born on February 7, 1935 in Detroit, Bob was the son of Rev. Arnold and Juanita (Darst) Kehrl. Bob grew up with his family in Grand Rapids, MI and graduated from Union High School.
While attending junior college he was drafted, serving in the United States Army in Europe in the mid 1950’s. After completing his military service, Bob returned to college, receiving his bachelor’s degree and MBA from the University of Michigan. Later he received his PhD in Business from the University of Toledo.
A lifelong scholar, Bob dedicated his life to teaching. He taught high school in Plymouth, MI for a number of years and eventually became a professor of business at the University of Toledo, retiring in 1983. Bob and his wife Rosemarie, whom he married in 1979, retired to their home at Gaylanta Lake in Atlanta.
An avid bird hunter, fisherman and camper, northern Michigan life suited Bob. He also enjoyed riding dirt bikes, travel and working in stained glass.
Bob is survived by Rosemarie, his wife 37 years; his son, David Kehrl of San Diego; his daughter Rochelle (Steven) Lehr of Anderson Air Force Base, Guam; his daughter-in-law, Kelly Sowle of Toledo, OH; grandchildren, Sarah (Brandon), Willis, Dylan and Austin; and a sister, Marie (George) Woodcock of Portland, OR. Bob was preceded in death by a son, Willis C. Sowle and a brother, John Kehrl.
Bob’s family will remember him with a private gathering of friends at Gaylanta Lake. Those who wish are asked to consider memorial contributions to American Cancer Society.
