Robert E. Newman

Robert Emil Newman, 91 of Cheboygan, passed away Friday, April 8, 2016 at Hiland Cottage in Petoskey.  A lifelong resident, Bob was born in Cheboygan on November 3, 1924, the son of Emil and Emma (Kubon) Newman.

After briefly serving his country in the armed forces, Bob was honorably discharged and returned home to Cheboygan.  He worked for 30 years at Charmin, which later became Proctor & Gamble in Cheboygan as a boiler operator.

He was a member of St. Thomas Lutheran Church and he was a golden member of Eagles Aerie #1282.

Bob was a jack of all trades who could fix anything.  Bob could often be found working in his garden or tending to his yard, which he took great pride in.  He also enjoyed watching old westerns.

Bob is survived by his wife, Gertie G. Newman of Cheboygan; his children, Ronald (Mary) Newman of Monroe, Michael Newman of Cheboygan, Sue Newman of Cheboygan, Nancy (Roger) Green of Cheboygan and Dale (Tracy) Newman of Pellston; his step children, Mary Ann (Robert) McLean of Imlay City, Johnny (Renee) Ventimiglia of Alpena, Patrick Ventimiglia of Mount Clemens and Kathy (Russell) Hudak of Cheboygan; and many grandchildren and  great grandchildren.  Bob was preceded in death by his parents, a son Wayne Newman, a daughter Kathy Newman and his brothers and sisters.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, April 16, 2016 at St. Thomas Lutheran Church in Cheboygan where the family will visit with friends beginning at 10:00 AM.  A luncheon will follow the service.  Those who wish are asked to consider memorial contributions to Hiland Cottage.
