Robert A. Hutton Jr., 82 of Guthrie Lakes, passed away Monday, January 9, 2017 at McReynolds Hall. Born on June 27, 1934 in Findley, OH, Bob was the son of Robert A. Sr. and Elizabeth (Strathman) Hutton.
A 1952 graduate of Romeo High School, Bob went on to receive his Bachelor’s Degree in education from Central Michigan University in 1956. While at CMU he was in Army ROTC for four years and later served in the U.S. Army Reserve.
On August 11, 1956, Bob married Joan E. McLeod in Pontiac. They lived in Shelby Township for many years where they raised their family. He worked for 36 years at Churches Lumber Company in management and as vice president of sales. After retiring in 1996, Bob and Joan moved to their vacation home at Guthrie Lakes.
Very active and dedicated to his faith, Bob was a member of St. Thomas Presbyterian Church in Shelby Township where he was an Elder and head of the building committee. After moving to Guthrie Lakes, he was a member of Gaylord First Presbyterian Church where he was also an Elder. He was also a member and past board member of the Utica Chamber of Commerce and Utica Kiwanis Club.
Bob was also a very devoted family man and family came first. He cherished family gatherings or any opportunity to spend time with his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. An avid golfer and member of the Michaywe men’s league, he also enjoyed travel and boating. And, anytime there was college basketball or football on television, Bob could be found watching the game.
He is survived by Joan, his wife of sixty years; his children, Kristie Hutton-Veenstra of Brighton and Scot Hutton of Gaylord; grandchildren, Lindsay (Justin) Elenbaas of Holland and Kelsey (Justin) Mickus of Brighton; great grandchildren, Wade and Cole; and his sister, Laura Snyder of New Mexico. Bob was preceded in death by his parents and great grandson, Deacon.
A memorial service will be held at 12:00 Noon Saturday, January 14, 2017 at the Gaylord First Presbyterian Church where visitation will begin at 11:00 AM. Those who wish are asked to consider memorial contributions to the church memorial garden.
