Robert Daniel Wood

Robert Daniel Wood, 70 of Gaylord, passed away Monday, January 1, 2024, at home.

Born in Newberry, Michigan, he was the son of William and Wilma (Freytag) Wood.  Rob grew up in Grayling and Gaylord, graduating from Gaylord High School in 1971.  He continued his education at Michigan State University, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1976.  During his time at MSU, Rob and his wife lived in East Lansing.  Later, they moved back up north, living in Grayling and then Gaylord.

Robert took and passed the Michigan Certified Public Accountant exam on his first attempt shortly after graduating from MSU.  He worked for a CPA for a time, later opening his own accounting business in Gaylord, which he operated from his home.

Robert was a very spiritual man, educating himself on many of the world’s religions.  He studied and followed a spiritual master and meditated often.

Robert loved reading, the outdoors and camping.  He enjoyed traveling the United States and abroad, especially trips to his wife’s family home in the Philippines, eventually buying a home there.

Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Jamera Tangkli Wood in 2016.  Surviving are his children, Justin (Lilita) Wood of Chico, CA, Mira (Sergio) Bolaños of Portland, OR, Rose Mary Wood of Lansing, and William Sommers of Elkhart, IN; grandchildren, Zephyr, Auggie, Carmen, Justin, and Maximus; his mother, Wilma Freytag Case of Grayling; sisters, Brandy Harland, Stormy Cooper, and Kama Case all of Grayling; a brother, Justin Case of Grayling and their families.  He was also preceded in death by his father, William Wood; and his brother, Mitchell Wood.
