Robert D. Roberts

Robert D. Roberts, affectionately known as Bob, passed away unexpectedly on February 22, 2025, in his lifelong hometown of Gaylord, Michigan. Born on October 18, 1957, Bob was a beloved figure in his community and left a lasting impact on all who knew him.

He graduated from Gaylord St. Marys in 1975, soon followed by college in 1976. Bob dedicated over four decades of his life to the United States Postal Service, where he began his career in 1977. He retired in 2017, having served as a dock manager in Gaylord, a position that showcased his commitment to service and work ethic. His colleagues will remember him not only for his professionalism but also for his warm spirit and willingness to help others. On August 18, 1984, in Gaylord, he married the love of his life, Janice (Shaffer).

Beyond his professional achievements, Bob was passionate about the outdoors. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, camping, and photography. His appreciation for nature and the beauty of life resonated deeply with those around him. Bob was always willing to lend a hand to friends and family, and if there was something he couldn't quite solve on his own, he would find a way to make it happen. His helpful nature and generosity will be profoundly missed.

He is survived by his wife, Jan, of 40 years; son, Bryan (Stephanie) Roberts; granddaughters, Megan Roberts and Isabel Hayes; siblings, Linda Roberts (Michael Atwell), Valerie (David) Van Fleet, Sally (Bill) Noeske and Steve (Kathy) Roberts; and sister-in-law, Kathy Roberts. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Glen and Veronica (Pomarzynski) Roberts and his brother, Tim Roberts. 

Funeral services will take place 11:00 AM Saturday, March 1, 2025, at Gaylord Community Funeral Home & Cremation Service, where the family will visit with friends beginning at 10:00 AM. Burial will take place in the spring at Fairview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Janice.
