Robert D. Hermann

Robert David Hermann, 82 of Boyne City, passed peacefully at his home surrounded by love on Tuesday, December 21, 2021.

Robert (aka, Bob, Pops, The Bear), son of Paul and Mary (Cerven) Hermann, was born June 13, 1939, in Joliet, IL and was a beloved and long-time resident of New Lenox, IL. Bob graduated from Lincoln-Way High in 1957 and was proud of his subsequent years in the US Army. He then spent most of his working life as a carpenter. He enjoyed driving around New Lenox pointing out the considerable number of homes he helped build with Lincoln-Way Builders. Bob loved his gardens and the White Sox, but his greatest source of joy was family. He was quick to share encouraging words and lessons on the value of hard work. As a little league and youth football coach, his positive impact on young people permeated the neighborhood and community. Bob’s approach to life is reflected in the Greek proverb, “A society grows great when old men plant trees in whose shade they shall never sit”. He will be deeply missed but we are grateful that Pops is now in a better place and free of pain.
He is survived by three sons, David (Julie), Michael (Michelle), and Steven Hermann; his sister, Elaine (Donald) Bensema; his extended families, the Gormans, Ringfelts, and Lohmans; and many grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wives, Mary Ann (Snider) and Charlene (Ringfelt), and two brothers, Eugene (Jenny) Hermann and Paul (Iris) Hermann.
A memorial service to celebrate Bob’s life will be held in the New Lenox, IL area at a later date.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the National Forest Foundation (nationalforests.org) or Operation Second Chance (operationsecondchance.org).
Please share your memories and personal messages with the family on his tribute wall.
