Richard Parnell Irland, 77 of Gaylord, passed away at home on Monday, April 5, 2021.

Born in Fulton, New York on March 9, 1944, he was the son of Raymond and Clara (Callaway) Irland.

After graduating from high school, Richard served his country honorably with multiple periods of service in the Marine Corps, Navy, Army and National Guard.

In addition to living in Gaylord, he lived for several years in the Orlando, Florida area where he owned a construction and painting business.

In his spare time he was an avid hunter and fisherman who also enjoyed working in his wood shop and cooking.

Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Marlene, on April 24, 2006.  Surviving are his children, Katherine Wells of Pontiac, Chester (Anna) Irland of Gaylord, Stephanie (George) Ehresman of Feeding Hills, MA and Timothy Irland of Gaylord; grandchildren, Myrrah, Meaghan, Lorane, Morgan, Cody, Braden, Kamryn, Amanda, Sarah and Emily; brother and sisters, Raymond (Simone) Irland, Judy (Darrell) Hildenbrant and Jean Burleson all of Orlando, FL; and several nieces and nephews.  He was also preceded in death by his parents and a brother, James Irland.

In keeping with his wishes, his family will remember him privately.  Interment with military honors will take place at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, MI.

Those who wish are asked to consider memorial contributions in his memory to the American Lung Association.
