Richard Dale Burd Jr.

Richard Dale “Rick” Burd Jr., 67 of Gaylord, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at his daughter’s Gaylord home, where he was checking on his grand dogs.

Born December 12, 1957, in Gaylord, Rick was the son of Richard Dale Burd Sr. and Carolyn (Sims) Burd. A lifelong Gaylord resident, Rick graduated from Gaylord High School in 1976.

He worked in sales at Gaylord’s NAPA Store, Wilbur Automotive, for more than 40 years, retiring in 2022. In his spare time, Rick was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also enjoyed spending time cooking and barbecuing for his family and friends.

Rick is survived by his wife, Cindy (Hamlin) Burd, they were married at Trinity Lutheran Church in Gaylord on October 14, 1978; his children, Nicole (Craig) Tewksbury of Gaylord; and sons, Jody Burd of Traverse City, and Joshua Burd of Weidman. He is also survived by his mother, Carolyn North of Gaylord; grandchildren, Austin, Jorden, Noah, Makayla, Alexia, Dylan, Jason, and Bella; a great grandchild, Shiloh; and his sibling, J.J. Burd.

He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Dale Burd Sr, his father and mother-in-law, Albert and Beth Hamlin; a sister, Debbie Wheeler; and a brother, Randy Burd.

The family will visit with friends from 4:00-7:00 PM Monday, March 17, 2025, at Gaylord Community Funeral Home & Cremation Service. Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 211 E. Hinman St, Mancelona, MI 49659, where funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon. A luncheon will follow the service. Burial will be at Hayes Township Cemetery in Gaylord, in the coming weeks.

Those who wish are asked to consider memorial contributions to the family, a decision for a memorial contribution in Rick’s name will be made later.
