Raymond R. Kalamayski, 90 of Vanderbilt, died on Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at Tendercare of Gaylord. Born on October 1, 1923 in Wyandotte, Ray was the son of Steve and Elsie (Tuszynski) Kalamejski. In 1943 Ray married Mary Czerniakowski in Wyandotte. In 1968 the family moved from the Detroit area to Vanderbilt. Ray worked as a mechanic at the Otsego County Road Commission and later at Gaylord Community Schools, from where he retired in the 1980’s. He was a member of St. Mary Cathedral. Ray was preceded in death by a grandson, Matthew Whitman in 2004, by his wife, Mary in 2006 and by a son, Ray Kalamejski in 2011. Surviving is his daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Gary Whitman of Vanderbilt; grandchildren, Jason Whitman, Amy (Jason) Strohpaul, Trevor (Melissa) Whitman, David (Renee) Kalamejski and Michelle Kalamejski. He was also preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Virginia Przygocki and a brother, Leonard Kalamay. Services for Ray will be held in the spring followed by interment at Evergreen Hill Cemetery in Vanderbilt. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to their charity of choice.
