Ramon E. Shimmons Jr., 60 of Petoskey, passed away Monday, October 10, 2016 at McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital.

Born on May 28, 1956 in Flint, Ramon was the son of Ramon E. Sr. and Janie (Kucherenko) Shimmons.

Ramon worked for 20 years at Circuit Controls Corporation in Petoskey where he was a Quality Assurance Inspector.  He enjoyed woodworking and was an avid fisherman.  He had received two master angler awards and could often be found at along the water’s edge in Petoskey.

Ramon was a parishioner at St. Frances Xavier Catholic Church in Petoskey, a Third Order Secular Franciscan and a member of the Knights of Columbus.

On December 12, 1998 Ramon married his wife, Barbara who survives.  Also surviving is a son, Adam Shimmons; one grandchild; his parents, Ramon E. (Diane) Shimmons Sr of Port Charlotte, FL and Janie (Dale) Bigelow of Auburn, WA; a brother, David Shimmons of Sterling Heights; sisters, Cindy (Gary) Hunter of Dexter, Stephanie (Bill) Born of St. Joseph and Laurel Shimmons of Laguna Hills, CA; his aunt Shirley (Jack) Armstrong and their sons, Eric (Angie) Armstrong  (children Abby & Jack Armstrong) and Matthew (Vicky) Armstrong; and other extended family and friends.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at St. Nicholas Cemetery (located on West Van Road, ½ mile west of Larks Lake Road) with Fr. Matthew Cowan officiating.

In lieu of flowers those who wish are asked to consider memorial contributions to the family.  A portion of all monetary gifts will be donated to St. Frances Xavier Church and the Marian Center in Joy Valley in memory of Ramon.
