Ocer J. “Bud” Wescoat, 73 of Gaylord, passed away at home on Friday, January 15, 2016. Born in Clio, MI on June 13, 1942, Bud was the son of Ocer Jackson and Grace Mae (Wilton) Wescoat.
The family moved to the Gaylord area when Bud was 2 years old. He grew up on his family farm near Sparr and graduated from Johannesburg High School in 1960.
Bud served in the U.S. Army from 1961-1964 as an MP in the canine corps. He also served in the National Guard active reserves. While stationed in California he met his future wife, Sharon Blalock. They were married in Vallejo, CA on July 6, 1963.
After his military service, Bud and Sharon settled back in the Gaylord area. Having received training in heating and air conditioning, Bud began working as an installer and service technician at Petgas in 1964 and later at Cities Service Gas & Oil and Amerigas He retired in December of 1998.
He was an avid hunter, particularly enjoying hunting trips to Wyoming and Colorado. Bud was a member of Gaylord Eagles #1825. He loved polish music and played bass guitar with the Gaylord Polka Kings and the Polka Masters.
Bud is survived by Sharon, his wife of almost 53 years; sons, Chad (Jeanine) Wescoat of Gaylord and Alan (Sui Young) Wescoat of Busan, South Korea; grandchildren, Jeremy, Nicholas, Alexis and Sophia; sisters, Bonnie Love of Mt. Pleasant and Margaret (Charles) Wilson of Farwell; a sister-in-law, Helen Wescoat of Gaylord; a brother-in-law, Edward Kress of Davis, CA and many nieces and nephews. Bud was preceded in death by brothers, Edward (Mary) and Don Wescoat; a sister, Patsy Kress; and a brother-in-law, Floyd Love.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, January 22, 2016 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Vanderbilt where the family will visit with friends beginning at 10:00 AM.
