Norma E. Gapinski

Norma Elaine Gapinski, 96 of Gaylord, passed away Saturday, October 14, 2023, at McReynolds Hall in Gaylord.

Born in Gaylord on March 30, 1927, she was the daughter of William and Olive (Schaff) Hansen. 

Norma attended the Little Red School House in Gaylord. On May 28, 1948, Norma and John Gapinski were married in Gaylord at St. Mary Cathedral. Norma was a homemaker, and a loving wife, mom, and grandmother.  John preceded Norma in death on November 3, 1990.

She was an avid gardener and enjoyed working on the family farm.  She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

Surviving are her children, James Gapinski of Gaylord, Dennis Gapinski of Gaylord, Carol (William) Compton of Avon, IN, Robert (Mary) Gapinski of Roset, WY, Herbert Gapinski of Gaylord, Patricia Trove of Silsbee, TX, Michael (Missy) Gapinski of Gaylord,  and Kevin (Charlotte “Angel”) Gapinski of Granbury, TX; grandchildren, Heidi, Lisa, Lynn, Jennifer, Penny, Amy, Wendy, Adam, Fred II, Scott, Ashley, Matthew, Alyssa, Joseph and Alexis; many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; a sister, Illah Coviak of Gaylord; a brother, Don Marion Hansen of Swartz Creek; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, Norma was preceded in death by a sister, Velma Gapinski; and brothers, Ford Hansen, and William Hansen II.

The family will visit with friends from 3:00 to 7:00 PM Sunday, October 22, 2023, at Gaylord Community Funeral Home & Cremation Service. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place 12:00 PM Monday, October 23, 2023, at St. Mary Cathedral where the family will visit with friends beginning at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
