Milton Ray Russell

Milton Ray Russell (87), of Alba MI, passed away on Saturday, March 30, 2024, with his family by his side.

Milton was born November 30, 1936, to Clarence and Almeda Russell of Franklin Furnace, Ohio, as one of 16 children.

On July 1, 1955, after a two-week whirlwind courtship, Milton married the love of his life, Della “Marie” Blevins. He remained a devoted husband to Marie for 64 years until her death on June 25, 2020.

Milton is survived by his large and loving family, including his children: Kenneth (Phyllis) Russell of Petersburg, MI, Milton (Jackie) Russell of Alba, MI, Richard Russell of Bradenton, FL, Ronald (Donna) Russell of Alba, MI, Rita (Steven) Nevers of Corryton, TN, Jeff (Gretchen Achenbach) of Wyocena, WI; two sisters: Betty Jean (Orville) Frances of Naples, FL, Dreama Irvan of Naples, FL; one brother Danny (Debbie) of Scottstown, OH; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and 13 of his siblings.

Milton was a painter by trade with CL Kasten Painting Inc. and a member of the Toledo Painters and Allied Trades Local Union #7 of Toledo, Ohio. Right up until his illness he could cut a straight paint line with one hand tied behind his back despite being retired.

Milton loved to spend his free time challenging friends and family to vigorous games of horseshoes, backgammon, or chess. He also enjoyed painting, watching the turkeys and deer from his balcony, singing God’s gospels and praising the Lord.

Milton was an active member of New Beginnings Apostolic Church in Gaylord, MI. He wholeheartedly believed in Isaiah 40:31 “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” God brought him through all his trials and tribulations safely and increased his faith so he too could soar like an eagle. His valleys became mountain tops as he continued to sing God’s praise throughout his days.

Please come celebrate Milton’s life with us. Visitation will be on Thursday, April 4, 2024, from 4:00-7:00 PM at Gaylord Community Funeral Home & Cremation Service.   Funeral services will be at the funeral home on Friday, April 5, 2024, at 11:00 AM.  Burial with a graveside service will follow immediately at the Star Township Cemetery in Alba, MI.
