Matthew Brian Duran

Matthew Brian Duran, age 54, is now fully alive in heaven after an intense fight with pancreatic Cancer.

Matt was born September 3, 1966 to Jerry and Carolyn Duran. Their family (Joel, Julie, Phil and Sara) made their home in Petoskey and have continued to build a legacy in the area, both in community and local business.

From an early age, Matt partnered with his grandfather, father, and brother in the home construction business. Matt continued to create Duran Building Inc, where he carried on a legacy of quality workmanship and “Excellence Always”. His attention to detail and love for craft is especially exemplified in the community of Bay View. He loved engaging with each and every client by restoring their cottages to beautiful summer homes where memories are made.

Matt and Marcy met and fell in love at Harbor Light Community Chapel, where they were married in 1990. They continued to build a strong community in the Northern Michigan area, and raised 3 children: Alivia, Mark, and Christian. They are joined by two much loved daughters by marriage, Kaitlyn (Alessi) and Amanda (Powers).

Matt poured his heart and soul into his craft and was a life-long learner. He loved to share his passion for history and literature with others. He was known for his love of the Lord Jesus, genuine love for each and every person he encountered, and enthusiasm on the ice rink.

A Celebration of Life for Matt will be held at Trinity Missionary Church in Petoskey on Saturday, September 4, 2021 at 3:00 pm.
