Matthew A. Borowiak VanHoff, 33 of Chicago, IL and formerly of Gaylord, MI, passed away on Sunday, January 12, 2020. Born on July 28, 1986 in Gaylord, he was the son of Mitch and Karen (Bebble) Borowiak.

In 2004, Matt graduated from Gaylord High School. He was a proud graduate of Illinois Institute of Technology, graduating with a degree in architecture. He worked for Goettsch Partners as a talented licensed architect in Chicago. Matt was focused, passionate and committed, giving 110% to everything he did. He was great with kids, enjoyed playing hockey, playing the drums, listening to music, running and living a simple life. He had a witty sense of humor, was non-judgmental and had a creative mind. He loved Emily beyond words and they were truly a match made in Heaven. He was also a gifted chef and enjoyed cooking for Emily.  Recently they rescued a dog, Zaha that became their baby.

Matt is survived by Emily VanHoff, the love of his life, whom he married in Chicago on August 3, 2015. Also surviving are his parents, Mitch (Karen); his brother, Andy (Sam); his sister, Kari; paternal grandmother, Florence Borowiak; maternal grandparents, Richard and Sandy Bebble; aunts and uncles, Jim (Lori) Borowiak, Jean (Lisa) Flinn, Barbara (Mark) Garneau, George (Dianne) Bebble, Joan (Rick) Whipple, Kim (Dan) Smith, Kim Bebble and David (Regan) Bebble; nephews, Blake, Henry, Caleb and Silas; father and mother-in-law, David (Joyce) VanHoff; brother-in-law, Bennett VanHoff (fiancée Mie Frederikke Fischer); sister-in-law, Claire (Gary) Behm; grandmother-in-law, Dorothy Van De Weert; and many cousins and extended family members. He will be missed by his family and many friends.

Matt was preceded in death by his grandfather, Robert William Borowiak; uncle, Dan Bebble and aunt, Lynne Bebble.

A memorial service to celebrate Matt's life will take place at 1:00 PM Saturday, January 18, 2020 at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 2012 W. Dickens Avenue, Chicago, IL 60647 where the family will visit with friends beginning at 12:00 PM.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 AM Saturday, January 25, 2020 at St. Mary Cathedral where the family will visit with friends beginning at 9:30 AM. A luncheon will follow at K of C Hall.

In lieu of flowers, those who wish are asked to consider memorial contributions to Matt’s wife, Emily VanHoff, C/O: Mitch & Karen Borowiak, P.O. Box 1397, Gaylord MI 49734; or to the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation, P.O. Box 64348, St. Paul, MN 55164.  Contributions will be directed to the Chicago Facility.
