Mary Kathryn Goepp, 91 of Gaylord, passed away on Saturday, March 6, 2021 at August Haus in Gaylord.
Born in Saginaw, Michigan on August 21, 1929, she was the daughter of Leonard and Evelyn (Foley) Stack. Kay grew up in Saginaw with her parents and two brothers, graduating from St. Andrew’s High School.
After high school, Kay left Saginaw to attend Georgetown University in Washington, D.C, quite an experience and accomplishment for a young woman in the 1940’s. Graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, she was a proud Georgetown University graduate and nurse.
After returning home to Saginaw, and while working in a local hospital, Kay met a patient, not knowing he would become her husband. She and Arthur R. Goepp were married in Saginaw on September 9, 1950.
Early in their marriage, and with their first born child, Richard, they moved to Lansing. Their family expanded to include five children and eventually the family moved to Plymouth. Once they began their family, Kay worked hard as a stay at home mom.
In 1991, after Arthur retired, he and Kay moved to Gaylord where she became a parishioner at St. Mary Cathedral. She enjoyed bowling and playing golf, gardening and nature. Her love for reading and crossword puzzles kept her mind and sense of humor sharp throughout her later years.
Kay was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur, in 2012; a grandson, Michael Goepp; and a brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Sally Stack.
She is survived by her children, Richard Goepp of Vanderbilt, Stephen (Sue) Goepp of Gaylord, David Goepp of St. Petersburg, FL, Suzanne (Tom) Dougekos of Brighton and Daniel (Karin) Goepp of Davidson, NC; grandchildren, Kate, Kevin, Tara, Matt, Alex, David (Alexa), Michelle (Travis) and Robert; great grandchildren Gavin, Emma and Ben; and a brother, Victor (Joan) Stack of Bedford, TX.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, March 13, 2021 at St. Mary Cathedral where the family will visit with friends beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment will take place in the spring at Otsego Lake Township Cemetery.
Those who wish are asked to consider memorial contributions to the Otsego County Library.
