Mary Lou Koenig, 86 of Gaylord, formerly of Lake Skegemog and Cincinnati, passed away on Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at Northwoods AFC Home in Gaylord. Born on December 12, 1928 in Covington, KY, Mary Lou was the daughter of Archie and Emma (Wesley) Montague.
She moved to Cincinnati as a child with her family where she attended and graduated from Mount St. Joseph on the Ohio School in 1947. Mary Lou also attended Mount St. Joseph College in Cincinnati for two years.
On June 17, 1950 she married Charles E. “Bud” Koenig in Cincinnati. They moved to Royal Oak in 1956. Bud and Mary Lou had purchased property on Lake Skegemog where the family spent time during the summer. They moved to the lake from Royal Oak in 1976. Mary Lou was preceded in death by her husband, Bud, in 1987. After living for a time in Florida she settled again in Cincinnati in 1990. In January she moved from Cincinnati to Northwoods AFC Home in Gaylord to be near her daughter. Mary Lou enjoyed being a homemaker and a mother. She was an avid reader and bridge player and she also enjoyed gardening. Since moving to Gaylord, Mary Lou attended St. Mary Cathedral.
In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by her son, Stephen C. Koenig in 2003; an infant son, Jeffrey Paul Koenig in 1965; her parents and a brother, Richard Montague. Surviving are her children, David F. (Ellen) Koenig of Traverse City, Laurie J. (Andy) Wentworth of Dawsonville, GA and Cathy E. Landry of Gaylord; 10 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild with one on the way; one niece and two nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, September 22, 2015 at St. Mary Cathedral, 606 North Ohio Avenue in Gaylord where visitation will begin at 10:00 A.M. A luncheon will follow in the parish hall. Burial will be at St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Cemetery in Kalkaska.
