Marjory C. Dinwiddie

Marjory Clagett Dinwiddie (“Marge”), longtime Charlevoix resident, passed away on December 3, 2024, at Grandvue Medical Care Facility in East Jordan where caring and loving staff tended to her for the past five and a half years.

She was born on April 17, 1927, to Thomas F. Clagett and Elsie (Elder) Clagett. Her siblings Sarah Arnold, Alice Preston and Thomas “Tim” Clagett predeceased her. She grew up in Saginaw, MI and earned a B.A. from Mills College in Oakland, California. After her marriage, the growing family lived in Grand Rapids, MI and moved to Charlevoix in 1956.

Throughout her life, Marge pursued a wide variety of interests. She applied her athleticism on the tennis court and gardened enthusiastically. Bridge games were always on the calendar. To educate herself in personal finance, she with friends formed a women’s investment club that continued for years and performed very well. She adored all animals, especially dogs. Later in life she pursued her love of travel with family members and rarely missed an opportunity to join Charlevoix tour groups on trips to faraway places.

The attribute that most defines Marge was her dedication to service. A member of the First Congregational Church of Charlevoix, Marge contributed to virtually all the Church’s activities, events and fundraisers. She was also active in many community organizations including the Charlevoix Area Garden Club, serving as President twice and achieving a Lifetime Award. During her active years, her volunteer work also included the Girl Scouts, Hospital Guild, Women’s Resource Center, Community Pool and Rainbow Shoppe. Marge was happy to oblige her friends who could count on her helping hand for whatever they might need—from transportation to pet sitting. Her giving spirit touched family, friends and the entire community.

Marge is survived by her daughters, Dana D’Andraia (Francis) of Beaver Island, MI and Janet Tarlow (Arthur) of Medfield, MA; grandsons, Benjamin Tarlow of New York, NY and Thomas Tarlow of Boston, MA;  and her nieces and nephews.

A memorial will be held at a later date.

Donations in Marge’s memory are welcome at the Charlevoix County Community Foundation to benefit the Grandvue Endowment Fund, 301 Water St., East Jordan, MI 49727 (www.c3f.org) or The Charlevoix Area Garden Club, P.O. Box 602, Charlevoix, MI 49720 (www.charlevoixareagardenclub.org) or at a charity of your choice.
