Marian C. Underwood

Marian C. Underwood, 84 of Sault Ste. Marie and formerly of Wolverine, passed away on Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at War Memorial Hospital in Sault Ste. Marie.

Born in Wolverine, Marian was the daughter of George and Anna (Kuhn) O’Donnell.  She was a 1952 graduate of Wolverine High School.  Having left to marry and raise her family, she later returned to make Wolverine her home until moving to Sault Ste. Marie about ten years ago.

An accomplished seamstress, for many years Marian worked from her home doing tailoring and making custom draperies.  She was also an avid quilter; every one of grandchildren and great grandchildren has one or more of their grandmother’s quilts.

Both in her youth and after later returning to Wolverine, Marian was a member of Wolverine Baptist Church.

In 1953 she married Darrell S. Lane and they had three children; Pamela (Dennis) Donohue, Kirby D. Lane and Kimela (John) McKinney.  She is also survived by her many grandchildren and great grandchildren, Dennis (Dagmara), Anouk and Arwen Donohue, Amanda, Brandon, Kristen, and Allison Sleva, Tiffany and Daniel Lane, John Jr. (Stephanie), Aidan and Logan McKinney, Ty (Laura), Theron, Honor, Decklyn, and Olivea McKinney, Brittany (Jeff), and Noah Nowakowski, Megan, Kiera, and Denyon (Hardy) McNair, Anna McKinney, and Samuel McKinney.  She is survived by brothers, James, Robert and Joseph O’Donnell and a sister, Donna Staub.  Later, in 1983 she married the late Douglas Underwood.  She is also survived by her companion, Dwain Russ and his family; Monica (Jim), Adeline and Annabelle Murphy, Colleen (Bruce), Andrea, Jordan, Kyle and Kaylen Burton.

A memorial service will be held at 12:00 Noon on Friday, August 17, 2018 at Wolverine Baptist Church where the family will visit with friends beginning at 11:00 AM.  A luncheon will follow the service.  Those who wish are asked to consider memorial contributions to the church or to the American Cancer Society.
