Margaret Ann Moore

Margaret Ann Moore, 86 of Gaylord and formerly of Cheboygan, passed away on Thursday, February 5, 2015 at Tendercare Gaylord. Born in Detroit on August 25, 1928, Margaret was the daughter of Arthur and Elizabeth (Close) Martinsen.

She met and married Jay E. Moore Sr. and they were Detroit residents until moving to Cheboygan in 1971. In 1986 Margaret and Jay moved to Arizona. Jay preceded her in death in 1987. She moved to Elizabethtown, PA where she lived for several years before returning to Cheboygan in 2007.

She will be remembered for her excellent skills with people and with customer service. This served her well throughout her career as a PBX operator, in the insurance and bookkeeping industry and as a waitress. Margaret was very social and a very compassionate woman who cared about her family, her neighbors and her friends. She enjoyed crocheting and quilting, making sure each of her grandchildren had something special, handmade by her. She also loved animals and enjoyed boating.

Margaret is survived by her children, Edith DeSostoa of Novi, Jay (Drena) Moore Jr. of Cheboygan, Karen Knox of Rockwood, TN and Keith (Jill) Moore of Gaylord; grandchildren, Pilar (Brad) Hagey, Tania (Daniel) McCue, Ryan Moore, Karya Moore, Callie (Mathew) Barr, Molly (James) Jonna and Mackenzie Moore; great grandchildren, Paige and Olivia Hagey, Parker and Lucas McCue, Maelee and Evelyn Barr and Isaac Jonna; as well as six nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and her husband, Margaret was preceded in death by her sister, Edith Huntley and her brother, Arthur Martinsen.

Margaret will be buried with her husband at Arizona Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Phoenix, AZ. A memorial service will be held later. Those who wish are asked to consider memorial contributions to the Salvation Army in Cheboygan.
