Madonna Barbara Sussex, 56, of East Jordan, died unexpectedly and peacefully of natural causes on July 29, 2022, in Petoskey, with her sons, siblings and significant other at her side.
She was born on Aug. 7, 1965, in Jackson, MI, the daughter of Thomas and Barbara (Kalt) Sussex.
She was a 1983 graduate of Houghton Lake High School and had earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from Michigan State University and a Master’s in Business Administration from Western Governor’s University. Most recently Madonna founded, owned, and operated a mobile notary service, and was a seasonal employee of the MI Department of Natural Resources Fisheries Division.
She was a passionate collector of jewelry, clothes, and Rae Dunn china, and enjoyed snow and water sports. She was an avid outdoorswoman and was often known to catch the most fish, bring down the largest buck, and spend time on any body of water in the company of her partner and peers. An excellent cook, she entertained often, and while often the center of attention with her mane of dark hair and lively spirit, she would say that her adult sons were her crowning glory. She loved every type of adventure, especially when it involved family and friends.
Madonna is survived by two sons, Troy (Nichole) Raymond of Tucson, AZ, Houghton Robinson (Kaitlyn Moe) of Gaylord; eights siblings, Thomas (Donna) Sussex of Des Moines, IA, Jack Sussex of Prudenville, Patrick (Nancy) Sussex of Prudenville, Mary Sussex (Bob Quinn) of Albuquerque, NM, Elisabeth Sussex of Santa Fe, NM, Teresa (Hector) Reyes of Palm Harbor, FL, Andrew (Kelli) Sussex of Commerce Twp., MI, and Regina Sussex of Oakland, CA; two very special grandchildren Aiden and Leah and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Barbara Sussex and her nephews, Anwar Leonard, and Matthew Sussex.
The family will visit with friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Wednesday, August 3, 2022, at Gaylord Community Funeral Home and Cremation Service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family. Please share your memories and personal messages with the family on her guestbook below.
