Lowell D. Ferguson, 77 of Grosse Pointe Park and Gaylord, died on Saturday, September 1, 2012 in Gaylord.
Born on December 18, 1934 in Lafayette, IN, Lowell was the son of John E. and Catherine S. (Douglas) Ferguson. Lowell received both his bachelors and masters degrees from Ohio State University and had done PhD work at the University of Illinois. With his background in engineering physics, Lowell worked at Bendix Research Labs and later at General Dynamics Land Systems, from where he retired in 2002 as a project manager. He worked extensively on projects related to our national defense and with NASA, where he was involved in projects with early space travel and the Apollo projects.
Lowell was actively involved at Grosse Pointe Memorial Church where he had been Clerk of Session and an Elder.
Preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret, in 1982, Lowell married Janet (McDonald) Baetz on May 17, 1986, and she survives. He is survived by sons Kent (Stefanie) Ferguson of Las Vegas, Mark Ferguson of Utica, Craig (Katherine) Baetz of Grosse Pointe Farms and Robert Baetz of Grosse Pointe; and grandchildren Kimberley, Kaitlyn and Kelly Baetz and Zachary, Jordan and Gabriel Baetz. Also surviving are sisters, Anne Walter of Ohio and Lois Sahm of Indiana and a brother, Richard Ferguson of California.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00am Saturday, September 8, 2012 at Grosse Pointe Memorial Church, 16 Lake Shore Drive, Grosse Pointe Farms, MI 48236. At the request of the family, memorial contributions may be made to the church.
