Leroy F. “Roy” Fitzek, 87 of Gaylord, passed away Wednesday, July 31, 2019 at Medilodge of Gaylord.

Born in Gaylord on December 28, 1931, Roy was the son of Frank and Cecelia (Krause) Fitzek.  He grew up in Gaylord and later attended Ferris State College,  graduating with a pharmacy degree.

After returning home, Roy worked for Jim Nelson at Nelson’s Drug Store as a Registered Pharmacist, later purchasing the business from Jim.  After many years of ownership, Roy sold the business and stayed on as a staff Pharmacist for a number of years before retiring.

When not working, Roy enjoyed many adventures as an avid hunter and fisherman.

He was preceded in death in 1996 by his wife, Judith (Barton) Fitzek.  Surviving are his children, Brad (Mary) Fitzek of Gaylord, Joni (Scott) Cook of Charlotte, Jill (Herb) Jenkins of Gaylord and Ryan (Kelly) Fitzek of West Monroe, LA; grandchildren, Justin, Megan, Logan, Blake, Steven, Kaelyn, Alexis and Gavin; great grandchildren, Connor, Lukas and Kooper; and a brother, Donald (Linda) Fitzek of Gaylord and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Ken, Jerry and Leonard Fitzek; a sister, Florence Bickham; half brothers, Lyle and Harold Fitzek; and a granddaughter, Larissa Manuszak.

A private family graveside service will be held at Fairview Cemetery.  Those who wish are asked to consider memorial contributions to the Otsego County Animal Shelter or the Otsego County Commission on Aging.
