Leonard Edward Puroll, 78 of Boyne Falls passed away unexpectedly, Sunday, June 11, 2023, while paying tribute to his late wife out west visiting their old fishing holes.
He was born on October 29, 1944, in Grayling. Leonard was the son of Walter and Rose (Kwapis) Puroll. He graduated from Boyne Falls Public School and received his teaching degree from Northern Michigan University.
Leonard taught at both Marquette and Vanderbilt and was an athletic director for Boyne Falls. After retirement, he kept busy working at several other part time jobs and took pride in umpiring and refereeing for many of his nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephew’s games.
Throughout his years, Leonard enjoyed playing basketball. In 1962, his team won the first conference championship in the history of Boyne Falls and districts in the same year. He continued his love for sports for many years umpiring and refereeing, all the way through last year.
Leonard was also an avid hunter and fisherman, he enjoyed gardening and sharing his harvest with family and friends. He looked forward to camping, hiking, fishing in the UP and traveling out west.
He is survived by brothers and sisters, Dorothy Woskoski of Vanderbilt, Donald (Sally) Puroll of Elmira, Chester Puroll of Bellaire, Tillie Jaroneski of Elmira and Patricia West of Boyne Falls and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Pamela Puroll, sisters, Annastasia Stark (Clarence) and Pauline Prusakiewicz (Walter and Chet); and brothers, Walter (Waneta), Sylvester and Vincent Puroll. Brother in-laws Alan West, Frank Woskoski and Vincent Jaroneski.
