Larry R. Chapel

Larry Richard Chapel, 77 of Gaylord, passed away Saturday, July 20, 2019 at home.

Born on July 11, 1942 in Pontiac, he was the son of George and Ednabelle (Beers) Chapel.

Larry’s family was involved in the sanitation/garbage business for many years and he followed in the family business downstate.  In 1977 Larry and his wife, Sharon, moved to Gaylord from Howell and purchased Otsego Sanitation, a business they owned and worked together until selling the business to City Management in 1991.  Larry stayed on with City Management as a driver for a few years before retiring.

Larry’s family and friends will remember him as a hardworking man all of his life.  When retirement did come, he and Sharon enjoyed traveling, to New York and on several cruises.  He enjoyed racing four cylinder cars at Northern Michigan Speedway in Elmira, landscaping and working around his home.  His greatest joy was spending time with family, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by Sharon, his wife of 56 years; his children, Melinda (Jon) Fleming and Carl (Denise) Chapel both of Gaylord and Tina (Larry) Clements of Port Orange, FL; grandchildren, Rachel, Ryan, Paige, Kyle, Hannah and Sarah; great grandchildren, Gabreal, Nicholas and Alexis; a brother, Daryl (Janice) Chapel of Gaylord; one niece and one nephew.

Larry’s family will visit with friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Tuesday, July 23, 2019 at Gaylord Community Funeral Home & Cremation Service.  Visitation will continue at the funeral home beginning at 10:00 AM Wednesday, July 24, 2019, followed by funeral services at 11:00 AM.  Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery in Gaylord.  Those who wish are asked to consider memorial contributions to the McLaren Hospitality House, G-3170 Beecher Road, Flint, MI  48532.
