Larry A. Carrick, 74 of Pellston, passed away on Saturday, July 22, 2017 at McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey. Born on July 28, 1942 in Saginaw, he was the son of Kenneth and Aletha (Cline) Carrick. The oldest of five boys, Larry grew up and attended school in Saginaw, graduating in 1960. That same year, Larry joined the United States Navy, serving honorably for 20 years, retiring as Chief Quartermaster on July 31, 1980. During his service, Larry and his wife, Susan, whom he married on May 11, 1968, lived in Alpena, Key West and Jacksonville, FL and Norfolk, VA. After retiring from the Navy, Larry continued to work in other positions, lastly at FedEx where he worked for ten years. Throughout his Navy career, Larry also attended college, later graduating with a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration from Saginaw Valley State University. Larry was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church in Levering and the American Legion in Mackinaw City. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and enjoyed traveling.
Surviving are his wife, Susan; daughters, Kristina (Steven) Ferrante of Lincoln Park, MI; Jennifer Carrick of Denver, CO; and Suzanne (Scott Curtis) Carrick of Thornton, CO; grandchildren, Kayden, Ryan and Emerson; brothers, Jack (Carol) Carrick of Petoskey, Jeff (Annette) Carrick of Shelby Twp, and Steven (Joyce) Carrick of Midland; a sister-in-law, Teri Carrick of Bay City; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Ron Carrick and a nephew, Matthew Carrick.
A memorial service will take place at 11:00 AM Thursday, July 27, 2017 at New Hope United Methodist Church, in Levering where visitation will begin at 10:00 AM. Interment with military honors will take place at McKinley Township Cemetery in Pellston. Those who wish are asked to consider memorial contributions to the church or to the Navy Marine Corps Relief Society (NMCRS).
