Kyle D. Russell, 38 of Gaylord, passed away at Otsego Memorial Hospital on Monday, July 25, 2016.

Kyle was born December 18, 1977 in Kalkaska and was the adopted son of Gordon T. and Nancy J. (Whitley) Russell.  He was a 1996 graduate of Charlevoix High School where he was a member of the wrestling team.  During high school Kyle worked at the Flap Jack Shack in Charlevoix.

On June 29, 1996 Kyle had a life changing swimming accident that left him a quadriplegic.  In spite of that he remained positive, had many friends and a great sense of humor.  After his accident, he lived with his aunt and uncle, Charlotte and Bill McArthur in East Jordan for two years.  The last 18 years he lived in Gaylord.

Kyle worked for a time at Mayfair Plastics through Crossroads Industries.  He enjoyed his North Country Community Mental Health family and friends and the many friends he made at Alpine Haus.  Kyle also enjoyed Action Club and Challenge Mountain activities as well as doing cross stitch and playing video games.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Nancy Russell and a sister, Amber Dixon.  Surviving are his father, Gordon (Sally Petrie) Russell of Bellaire; a sister, Stacey (William) Strable of South Lyon; brothers, Rick Russell of Elmira and James Russell of Suttons Bay; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, July 30, 2016 at Gaylord Community Funeral Home & Cremation Service where the family will visit with friends beginning at 12:00 noon.  Those who wish are asked to consider memorial contributions to the family or to Challenge Mountain.
