Kristin E. Horton, a beloved music teacher and dedicated professional, passed away peacefully at Villa at the Bay in Petoskey, on January 5, 2025, at the age of 78. Born on October 14, 1946, Kristin was a vibrant presence in the lives of many and will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Throughout the years, Kristin and her husband, Victor, lived in Elmira, Sault Ste. Marie, and Brimley. Kristin's passion for music inspired countless students during her extensive career as a music teacher. She held a bachelor’s degree in music from Western Michigan University, a testament to her commitment to the arts and her dedication to sharing that enthusiasm with others. Throughout her life, she imparted her love of music to generations, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of her students.
In addition to her teaching career, Kristin worked in the insurance industry with AFLAC, where her professionalism and integrity shone through in every interaction. Kristin had many hobbies and interests that enriched her existence. She found joy in photography, capturing the beauty of the world around her and took solace in gardening. Her greatest joy was her cat, “Boycat” who was truly her dearest companion. Her curiosity extended to technology, where she embraced new advancements, always eager to learn and explore.
She is survived by her sisters, Caryn (Mike) Foshaug and Donna Blomberg Carlson; dear friends, Cheryl Moreno and Irene Kazmers; a niece, Teri (Matthew) Whitaker; two nephews, Warren Foshaug and Anthony (Elizabeth) Foshaug; and beloved cousin, Janice Blomberg Burwell who cared so lovingly for Boycat, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by husband, Victor Horton, parents Vivian and Ivar Blomberg, and brother-in-law David Alkire.
The family has chosen to remember her privately. Memorial contributions in memory of Kristin may be made to the Women’s Resource Center, AFLAC Children's Cancer Center, or to Friends for Life.
