Kevin A. Vallad, father, brother, nephew, and friend, passed away on April 29, 2016, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born on November 27, 1963, to Marion D. (Carmichael), of Boyne City, where he attended Boyne City Public Schools, graduating in 1983.
Kevin’s greatest joy in life was being a father. On February 6, 2006, his youngest son Kory was born. Together, they formed a special relationship, as Kory was such an inspiration to his dad. He was Kevin’s main focus in life. With his warm smile and such Godly wisdom for a young man of 10, Kory championed his dad in the fight of his cancer. Kevin also had two grown up sons, Kevin Jr., and his wife Angie, who made the long drive from Texas last year to spend time with him. He has a second son, Joshua, also from Texas.
Throughout this final journey, his brother Ron and sister Tammy spent many treasured moments with him; whether it was reminiscing about old times, or just being an encouragement. If there is one thing Kevin will always be remembered for, it’s his enjoyment of fishing. He was a skilled fisherman that no one could match. His close friend Dennis Kenney was not only his fishing buddy, but a true friend. He and his wife Paula gave support to Kevin by providing meals or sometimes staying with him at night so he would not be alone. Kory’s mother Carolyn and her husband Dale opened up their hearts and home to care for Kevin these last final days. They went beyond the definition of a Christian, being Christ like.
The gospel of John 14, Jesus tells his disciples just before his crucifixion,” Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.” If Kevin could speak to you now, he would tell you to make your calling sure that is to make certain of your salvation. Why is that you may ask, because, there is no second chance after the grave.
Kevin is survived by his three sons, Kevin Jr., (Angie) of Texas, Joshua of Texas, and Kory of Boyne City, his brother Ron of Boyne City and sister Tammy Sowers of Lakes of the North; many aunts, uncles, and cousins and good friend Wilma Belleville and her family as well as his best friend Dennis and Paula Kenney and family. He was preceded in death by his mother Marion on January 5, 1999., his grandfather Ronald on March 7, 1990, grandmother June on May 15, 2007, and his Aunt Betty on March 7, 2001.
A memorial service will be held in the community room at Lakeview Village Mobile Home Park, 2:00 PM Saturday, May 7, 2016.
