Kenneth Joseph Tyda, 76 of Indian River, passed away on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at Hancock Haven in Cheboygan.
Born on August 23, 1942 in Newberry, Ken was the son of Joseph and Esther (Babcock) Tyda. He grew up in Newberry and was a 1960 graduate of Newberry High School.
Ken served honorably in the Army National Guard. He worked as a pipeline welder for Great Lakes Natural Gas Company in Rapid River, Michigan and for ANR Pipeline in Defiance, Ohio after 35 years of service. Later he worked as a traveling pipeline inspector for several companies for ten years.
Ken was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars in Wauseon, Ohio, the American Legion, the Fraternal Order of Elks and Eagles Lodge. He enjoyed camping fishing and traveling.
Ken is survived by his wife, the former Marie A. Hamill. They were married in Gulliver, Michigan on November 24, 1961. Also surviving are his children, Treva (Steve) Neal of Fort Worth, TX, Kenneth (Tammy) Tyda of St. Johnsbury, VT and Steven (Dawn) Tyda of Bowling Green, OH; seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; a sister, Gail Johnston of Rogers City; a brother, Joseph Tyda of Newberry and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held from 4:00-7:00 PM Friday, September 14, 2018 at Mueller Township Hall, 1805 W. Quarry Road, Gulliver, Michigan 49840.
