Kay Val Simpson, 72 of Gaylord, passed away on October 10, 2013 at home surrounded by her family. Kay was born on February 14, 1941 to Ford and Jane Martin of Mackinaw City. The majority of her life was spent as a resident of Mackinaw City, including graduating from Mackinaw City High School in 1959 and retiring from the Village of Mackinaw City where she worked as the city treasurer. She married Lawrence Simpson on March 23, 1979, and in 2006 they moved to Gaylord. Kay is survived by her husband Larry; her children, Richard Phillips of Cheboygan, Melissa (Nate) Krueger of Carp Lake, Bruce Simpson, Laura Simpson of Gaylord, Jack Simpson of Gaylord; granddaughters, Kara (Gary) Provo of Cheboygan, Kati Phillips of Cheboygan, Kathryne Simpson of Gaylord and Samantha Simpson of Gaylord; a great granddaughter, Leah Provo of Cheboygan; a brother, Dennis (Judy) Martin of Mackinaw City and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceding her in death were her parents, Ford and Jane Martin and a son, David Phillips. Cremation has taken place and a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, October 17, 2013 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Mackinaw City. Interment will follow at Lakeview Cemetery. Arrangements are by Gaylord Community Funeral Home, 850 North Center Ave. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Michigan through the funeral home.

11:00 A.M. Thursday, October 17, 2013 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Mackinaw City.
